Avara deepens cooperation with Aitoenergia

Three Avara rental buildings on Palanderinkatu street in Jyväskylä will be converted from district heating to geothermal heating during this year.

Geothermal heat as a service contributes to cost-efficiency and low-carbon housing

Avara and Aitoenergia have agreed on a geothermal heating service for eight properties located in Jyväskylä. The project strengthens the ongoing successful cooperation between Avara and Aitoenergia. Last year, Aitoenergia's geothermal service was introduced in four Avara properties in the capital region.

"We are committed to reducing the energy costs and the climate and environmental impact of housing. Geothermal heat, as a service, contributes to our economic and ecological goals in a sustainable and effective way. We are pleased with Aitoenergia's easy and comprehensive service, from the introduction of geothermal heating right through the entire lifecycle,” says Tuomas Rantsi, COO at Avara.

Avara's operations focus on large growth centres, where the need is greatest for high-quality rental apartments meeting residents' needs. On the Jyväskylä properties, district heating will be replaced by geothermal heating in 2024. Aitoenergia will be responsible for everything related to the introduction of the geothermal service, including informing the residents.

"The well-being and satisfaction of the residents are of primary importance to Avara and are the cornerstones of our operations. That is why we have invested significantly in communications to residents. The positive feedback we received from a previous geothermal project with Aitoenergia confirmed our desire to continue cooperation,” says Viveca Seppänen, Senior Asset Manager at Avara.

Aitoenergia's geothermal service is a groundbreaking way to expand the use of geothermal heat.  It brings the benefits of geothermal heat to everyone – cost-effectively and with ease. Aitoenergia has the most extensive experience of lifecycle management of geothermal heat in Finland.

"We are very pleased with Avara's decision to deepen cooperation with Aitoenergia. Geothermal heat as a service is a wise choice, even in cities where the price of district heating is affordable,” says Tuomas Humalajoki, CEO of Aitoenergia.
